I didn't see the obligatory gay couple. I was horrified! Then I watched again. 33 seconds in. What a relief.

Hey wait! How come there's no tranny?

Yup, another unprecedented times ad.
Meanwhile my governor has mandated masks for everyone in WA starting Friday...
and people not wearing them can be charged with a *misdemeanor*.

As someone who works in a grocery store, I have no idea how they will handle this. Some days I see 60-40 mask use, some days 50-50, some days 70-30. It all depends on the clientele who comes in. The bosses have me outside in the foyer wiping down carts and baskets. Which is where the ONLY doors to the store are located.
I'll talk to them tomorrow and see if they are doing any type of training or if they are just telling us to either let 'em in to be kicked out by the manager in the booth, or if the cart cleaner has to kick them out, or if they will have masks ready to hand out for those who didn't bring one. I'm a little scared of confrontations. I know that people will be angry, scared, frustrated, or a mix of the three. Maybe I can get switched to other tasks in the store and let someone else (or even a security guard) handle Inslee's mask requirement.

Which BTW we don't have that many masks available for sale. A few kids' cloth masks and about half a dozen boxes of surgical masks made in CHINA. They rip apart within 2 days, to the point where taking them off to drink water causes fuzz to go in my mouth. Poor quality material that they charge $13.00+ for 10, and nearly $70 for 50!

If they push for a second lockdown, you betcha. Dead
I talked with the general manager of my store yesterday. They have been told to use an 'education' approach when it comes to the mandatory WA mask rule. Anyone working in the store, from courtesy clerks up to the general manager, at NO time can kick out a customer for not wearing a mask. They can only encourage them to wear one and hand out educational flyers for those who refuse.
They also are NOT allowed to forcibly put a mask over someone who refuses.
I have a feeling that the CEO of my grocery chain is a little sick and tired of this too but still wants to meet the requirements of Inslee.
Also heard that the sheriff's dept/police will likely not arrest/charge people with misdemeanors unless absolutely necessary...

Can I just go back to January/February and wake up from this real-life Twilight Zone nightmare? Has Rod Serling escaped from his grave?

I've only used my 'mask' once so far, where a thrift store required it.  The 'mask' is a set of Groucho glasses (sadly the eyebrows are missing) with a moustache inked onto a drier sheet.  It offers as much 'protection' as the cloth pantie masks most people wear.  Got a couple of laughs from people who finally noticed it...

Goodwill's were requiring masks before Inslee's statewide mandate. They had a security gal at the door.

Oh puleeze, another Zoom ad. Albeit they have likely made billions off this pandemic. Soon this will be all over. Whether if the virus dies off, or treatment/vaccine, life will return. I'd think we'd be back to near-normal in the fall. Albeit the NBA looks like it will be a go at Disney World in late July and I think we all need that, even without fans , and the MLB will be back in late July as well. Smile

Yeah Goodwill is sketchy enough as it is with ppl turning in who knows HOW much unrestrained 'touching' withjout cleaning on their 'donations'-w/o masks its like DOOMSVILLE so in order to even open, they have to be super on board with all requirements

At the rate we're going, they are going to start re-airing the commercials from page 1, 2 of this thread by August 1 when sh*t starts shutting down again.

Delaware postponing reopening due to spiking number. Even Philly city limits is seeing an uptick now - face mask mandate put into effect yesterday...and full reopen scheduled for July 3 may be postponed.

My county and neighboring Bucks is slowly trending up again. Of course every state is seeing the rise of cases (except 2 I think?)

What a total f-ing fail!
(rant over...sorry, I'm extremely grump today)

Thanks George Floyd!
Albeit there is a LOT more testing capability now so the cases are spiking, a lot of them in younger people who are likely asymptomatic to mild. Best thing to do is look at the hospitalizations (which in AZ and a few other states are up - but not just of COVID - people getting surgeries and treatments that they were forced to put off in March/April/May due to the shutdowns), and *most importantly* ICU/ventilator usage. Deaths continue to go down day by day (only 506 in the U.S. yesterday, compared to what - 1500 or 2000 last month?) so that's good news.
My mother needs a back surgery in July or August. They informed her that before she can have the surgery she is REQUIRED to be tested for COVID-19. I can see that happening elsewhere thus the spike in cases. And of course, George Floyd protests.
We shall see in the next couple of weeks if the deaths rise up. I hope not, for everyone's sake.

This is one spot that continues to play in our market by Ent Credit Union. It now gives of the vibe (at least to me) of a bystander to an incident trying to grandstand after the authorities have taken care of the problem. It's the "OK, people we have everything under control, now just buy our product or services" speech.

There's a similar commercial from Kaiser Permanente were some social services sounding authority voice says "Here's what we want you to do..". Who the heck are you and why do I have to follow your orders.

Frosted Flakes...except that young kid can't go to sports practice without a mask. I have ZERO idea how teachers will be able to control their students this fall.

'Johnny, put your mask back on!'
'Susie, stop touching your mask!'
'Jamie, go wash your hands - your mask is dirty!'

Wow. I can't wait. Shocked

(Also just reached the 2 month mark since I turned off my TV. My mental health thanks me.)

I wonder how that's going to work out with students in special ed classes.

It will be a d-i-s-a-s-t-e-r. Virtual/remote learning isn't working for most of them either, which is the sad part of all of this. Special needs students are of little importance to anyone during the pandemic, when they should be!

As a former student who was in special ed myself, I don't think I could do virtural learning easier. It's much easier for me to be in a classroom with face-to face communications with my teachers and fellow students. There's something about actual classrooms that can't be replaced by virtural learning.
