I had to take my Subaru Legacy to the body shop after a fender bender. Other guy's fault (for once Embarrassed) so I got a rental car for the week...

I was pleasantly surprised with the fit, finish, and solid feel of this...er...car? truck? whatever. I'd owned a few GM products years ago and haven't owned a domestic since, but I'd consider this one. Quite roomy inside for this size vehicle, lots of headroom, and very spacious cargo area, exp. with rear seats down. I've seen inside a couple PT cruisers and this thing was ginormous inside compared to them.

Mine was the low-end model so it was pretty spartan but probably would be better with the next higher trim line. One thing I noticed, the cargo hatch had much lower overhead clearance (think it was around 30") than inside, which could be a problem if you were trying to take something like a snowblower to the shop.

Overall though, a cool ride. Got lots of positive comments on it while I had it. If you're looking for a car that will haul stuff and want something that looks a bit different, check these out.

My dad had a 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air that resembled that car....

I used to stand in the middle on the "hump" in the back seat...no seat belts for us.

My son had an HHR as a rental when he totaled his truck.  I was impressed with the gas mileage this car has.

The only complaint I have about the HHR is that I think, to me, there is a big blind spot in the back.  Otherwise, I liked driving it.
