Sorry if this is already a thread - I thought for sure there had to be one already, but couldn't find one!
Anyone else REALLY hate the Big Tobacco commercials?  Every time I see those stupid commercials ("It must have been a typo a typo a typo...") it makes me want to go smoke a pack of cigarettes.  And I don't even smoke!

No doubt.  Unless you're Rip Van Winkle you know that cigarettes are bad for you.

If they'd like to help, just donate the air time to Chantix or something.

Like I've said before Truth.com is the new Just Say No. A pointless feelgood campaign that wastes money and covers up the lackluster job our politicians are doing. Wanna see where a war on smoking will go? The same the place the already failed "war on poverty" and "war on drugs" went. 4 decades later and still wasting billions upon billions of dollars throwing out good money after bad.

As I recall, the advertising is something that the big tobacco companies were forced to produce and pay for as part of the settlement they made with the attorneys general of several states who successfully sued them about a decade ago.

Those funds might be more useful if they went toward treatment for the uninsured who've contracted cancer due to smoking.

Or at the very least, a better campaign.
Let's try not to be boring, mkay?

I remember that. I actually participated in one commercial. Thank god it only aired once and nobody saw it!

I think the new war is the War on Personal Freedoms.  Both sides of the political spectrum have been guilty of this too, so don't buy into one hype over the other.  As The Who said, meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

I used to smoke back in the days - when I was about to quit, I decided to check out the nicorette and nicoderm products. They cost hundreds of dollars!! I managed to quit with just the Trident gum, but I always think that it'd be a good idea to subsidize the anti-smoking products (over the counter) with these funds rather than making these sheety commercials and maintaining that flash based bloated thetruth.com website.

That's a good idea, Lobster.  The brand name nicotine substitution product prices are ridiculous!

This commercial makes me want to smoke just to spite them.   Excellent advertising by big tobacco, but I see through it and won't be manipulated
