I can't say I was a massive fan, I did like the music in the 80s into the early 90s (The Batman soundtrack..ehh. never liked it!)...after 1995, 96 I guess I lost track of his music. Purple Rain came out when I was in 7th grade, the songs from that album we're all over the radio, school dances. I guess Raspberry Beret a year later.. I always liked the song "Pop Life." Few songs from the late 80s, I'll listened to a few of them in the past week and my mind instantly had a flashback to high school.

The guy had talent, i can't deny that. The hits he wrote for others we're impressive...launched careers (The Bangles, The Time/Morris Day, Sheila E)..or put an existing artist into the spotlight for the first time (Sinaid O Conner), or again like Tom Jones, Chaka Khan. Inspired other artists..I always saw Terrence Trent D'Arby in the late 80s as this Prince / Michael Jackson hybrid. Lenny Kravitz, I see a lot of that in Bruno Mars today.  I looked back at the Super Bowl Halftime show, I admit I did like the brief cover he did of All Along The Watchtower / and Foo Fighters "Best Of You."

His appearances on guitar, scheduled or a surprise cameo...I liked those. ^"My Guitar Gently Weeps" I saw this earlier in the week from 1999 in Toronto. Not a fan of Sheryl Crow, different live version of her song with Prince showing up on guitar. I also couldn't help to notice Sheryl's t-shirt..

Now seeing that its almost certain that this was an accidental RX painkiller OD killed him..that it almost killed him about a week before last Fri, that's just sad.

I read that somewhere in Price's "vault", there's a whole album's worth of music he worked on with...

...Bonnie Raitt!!

Supposedly, he was a big fan of Raitt, and wanted to help relaunch her career.  I don't know why it was never released.

But whatever---Bonnie Raitt??!!  Cool.

Yeah, I even read there might be a very raw,  Prince / Miles Davis tape among the massive stash. I'm very curious to hear that.

Tons of demos, outtakes..literally decades worth of unheard material. BUT, no will..no one has control over what will come out. Her only blood related sister of course popped out of nowhere to take control (I think he has 4 or 5 step brothers also?). I dont know much about her..I cant help to think she has "$$$$$" floating around in her head.

WinkHey Sarge - as long as you dont have any 'furry hand habit', then you shouldn't have to worry about going blind from the 'mourning colors'...

I too agree! I feel sorry for his family and friends. He did expire way before his time. I'm a few years older. But it's amazing how we lionize and elevate these unfortunate celebrities/artists to saintly status. They needed help and it's sad their handlers and boucoup $$$ couldn't keep them from their demise. Michael Jackson, Anna Nicole Smith and the beat goes on. With today's PC soft society I'm waiting for the government to shut down and pay their workers for the days off when one of these legends of stage, screen or sport croak. I guess this enables the media some new feeding frenzy, until the next loon mass shooter mows down innocent people in the wrong place at the wrong time!

What a great statement (the whole post).
What people haven't caught up with yet is that Prince isn't really dead, no.
He just whored himself out to Dr. Pepper.

It's obvious that our beloved Forum Administrator had a deep respect for Prince, the artist formerly known as alive.

As was suspected in the early going, the tox results are out.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Prince died of an overdose of fentanyl, a powerful opioid painkiller that is up to 50 times more potent than heroin, autopsy results released Thursday show.

If he was having addiction issues related to pain, I can't fault him too much.  It's not like he was doing party drugs.  I don't think he ever even had that reputation.

The suspicion of pain meds was there since his death, but damn...Fentanyl?  That is extremely hardcore and mostly used in hospice / terminal cancer - and just as a slow releasing patch! If you break that patch, maybe lick or even inject a small content..that alone could be fatal.

Eh, If a doctor DID prescribe him this, along with pills like Percocet, if that is not reckless endangerment, I don't what is. Heck I tend to think ONE doctor legally
prescribing Fentanyl is extreme.

Don't know the full story yet..apparently he did use aliases, maybe multiple doctors.
It's sad, this opiate addiction is a b*tch!

And that's why I won't take Lamisil for my fungal toenails.  I don't wanna get all f*cked up and dependent upon anti-fungals, and end up like Prince.

^You should name your toenail in honor of Prince  - 'L'l Fung'. You'd be popular, doncha know - a 'man in demand', but subservient to your tonail. Not matter how life shakes down from there on, you will have made the choice - you will be living a lifestyle influenced by 'Li'l Fung'sWay'.

LOLLOL
That reminds me of an episode of WKRP in Cincy, I couldn't find the video.

(Like when Johnny, in a ham-fisted “perils of drugs and payola” episode, convinces Mr. Carlson that a baggie full of cocaine is foot powder.)

As Mr. Carlson's feet go numb..."I've got a monkey on my foot, Andy!" LOL

I remember the day that Prince died, a poster on IMDB started a thread called,"Did Prince have AIDS?" I remembered thinking,"What a creepy, weird, and stupid thread!" I had no idea that Prince had died when I saw that thread. I went to CIH and saw "Because Prince is dead," and thought,"Oh. Now that weird IMDB thread makes sense!"
My name is Donathan, pronounced the same way you pronounce Jonathan, except with a D. :D $608 for her brother's scooter. Fair is fair my ass. Being tough on Public Access TV is priceless.

I just stopped crying about this a couple of weeks ago (yes, I'm a chick). We went to the same high school in Minneapolis Minnesoooooda. My first boyfriend and I shared our first kiss to Purple Rain. He was a brilliant musician, but seriously, fentanyl pills man! What. The. Hell! You were smarter than that man, you were smarter than thatCryCryCry  Let's go find his dealer and take him out back and kick the sh*t out of him.

I miss Prince being in the world. I have to wonder what music we were robbed of.

Many of us have been wondering exactly the same thing ever since Hendrix died and John Lennon was murdered.

Stevie Ray too.
