In the next ten years, the baby boomers are going to retire. There are an estimated 79 million baby boomers in America and it looks like social security may be drained and maybe the cost of health care may go up. Since baby boomers are a large percent of the population, when many of them retire, there will be a lot of jobs for the younger generations. How does this have an effect on society that baby boomers are going to retire? This is what I think, tell me if you believe this or not and why.

With them getting out of the work force, maybe the job situation will improve.
I hope that most plan to be cremated as there will be no room to bury them all.

Anyone who still thinks that social security will be there after the boomers cashout will be sad.

Oh yeah, and thanks again for leaving us the country in it's current state.

I think that covers it.

Hey, just like the baby boomers themselves, Social Security was a creation of my parents' generation, not mine.  If you think it was a bad idea, then you would presumably welcome its demise, right?

Damn straight.
I say end it now, before I sink another yen into it.
If you are under the age of 50 and plan on relying on it, you will be disappointed in 20 years.

I'm VERY close to having paid 7 figures into that fund; I've seen it misused and used correctly. When I *needed* it (partial disability), I had to wait 1.5 years to get to court! (I was RAPIDLY awarded, but NEVER collected) - by then, I came to alternative means (consulting).
I'm quite o.k. - from all angles - once again.
They better just take care of the MissusDWolf, should she ever need it.

Maybe 'paid' was a poor choice of words...but, alas, yes - I pulled the info when I filed for SSI. I had some very good years - I simply wanted to try exercising my rights.

Why did you make that comment?
Were we off trak and not generating proper poll material?
Of course retiring will have an effect - for a MULTITUDE of reasons - and I think one specific reason has generated discussion to point.
We haven't touched upon little issues like 'succession within professions'....where *I* think there will be significant issues and 'ripple effects'...
