When I was getting tickets for The Moody Blues Concert (which is tonight) I got them at Tower City Center and they had an Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips there.
When ATF&C was abundant, my parents went to one and they liked it.
So next time I'm hungry, should I go and eat there...or not?

I don't think it ever came to my part of the country, so to me, Arthur Treacher is still the cop in Mary Poppins. All I know is, I still miss H. Salt Fish and Chips, which as far as I know either went out of business or at least left this part of the country very early. Thank heaven for Long John Silver's, but even it's become hard to find here. They merged with A & W, so you see fast food places that are half Long John Silver and half A & W, literally divided down the middle!

We stopped at one on the way to FL a few years ago and it wasn't very good. It was tied in to Nathan's Hotdogs somehow. So we got the fish and Nathan's fries with it. None of the real steak fries (chips) they used to have. About 30 years ago, AT's Fish and Chips was quite delicious. They even had malt vinegar bottles on the tables.

I used to LOVE the chicken and chips. I haven't seen an Arthur Treachers in years. I guess it can't hurt to try.

There was one super close to my parent's house, yet we never ate there. I gotta assume there's a reason for that.

I went to the same one that I saw last week. The fish sandwich wasn't that bad!

There used to be several Arthur Treacher's shops in Central PA but I'm pretty sure they're all gone. While they were still around, their fish dinners beat Long John Silver's by a mile--the fish tasted better, and the coating was noticeably crispier and less greasy than those rubbery fish planks at LJS.
I talked to the manager of the last AT's I knew of before it closed a few years back, and from what he said, the AT's company isn't doing much more than collecting franchise fees. The restaurant owners have to offer some standard items but beyond that they can vary the menu a good bit, and there are no quality inspections to speak of.

I wish that Pudgie's Chicken would relaunch Arthur Treachers with a duo restaurant. Or possibly...Wendy's owns part of the franchise since Dave Thomas helped the Arthur Treacher's Franchise.... |

Same thing I was thinking.
I really had to blow the cobwebs from my mind to even remember the last time I saw an 'AT's'...I think I remember liking them...
Then again, I always liked 'fish & chips'...usually served with mayo on fries (the 'Euro Way')

I think there was one near this one park I went to as a kid and I think we did eat there but I don't really remember much about it. I'm not really big on seafood.

There's one in the food court in Norfolk, and it has a Nathan's attached. It wasn't too bad, but when I want to clog my arteries with batter, I'm more of a Captain D's guy!
I guess the fact that it's the only one in this area is why I don't go too often. Last time I was in New York, I saw a few on Long Island and in the city, but that was 7 years ago... |
