This series of commercials flat makes me SICK!

Bobble-head biatches and idiots hawking contacts and eyeglasses; I swear, if anything can trigger an epileptic seizure!
Personally, I experience chest pains and shortness of breath when these commercials come on...not to speak of being totally irritated by the dim-witted dialog.

But WAIT! There's MORE! Their website will NOT let you forget their commercials!

Wow that's CHEAP!  What are the glasses made of?  Sawed off coke bottles??  I bet the contacts are made from the film you zip off the tops of salad dressing bottles. LOL

I recently conducted a little experiment of my own, by ordering glasses from some cheapo online sources.  I was pleasantly suprised.

The first was a pair of 'scrip sunglasses which cost just shy of $30, including shipping, from Optical4Less (which is in Hong Kong).  The quality is much higher than I expected, and more importantly I can see perfectly fine with them.  Shocking.  I don't feel great about the China part - I expect some of you might be throwing stuff at me right now.

The second was kind of a joke, I was too curious.  From a place in New York called GlobalEyeGlasses, I got a pair for $8.50.  No lie.  Frames $1.50 + lenses for $7.  The frames were on clearance and not available any more, but they're funky semi-rimless plastic and I didn't plan to but I've actually been USING them.  Which: I will do until they break LOL

I know nothing of the site from the ad above.

Not sure I would trust cheap  Ouch contact lenses, though.

The link to the site is above the Ad, HR.

One thing I tend to observe is that I personally do not know certain giant retail chains, like "America's Best C&E", even exist until I experience and look into the ad, check the link, and check local listings. Then I tend to find they are more common than rats, snakes, or roaches...and I end up seeing them everywhere...Confused
The ads have been running for at least 5 or 6 years - I'm certain because I found a real America's Best C&E back in Fort Worth (after the Ads drove me nuts back then) and we are almost 6 years removed. They ran the SAME bobblehead/jump-in-your face style ads, then.

I'm NOT complaining AT ALL about the PRODUCT - your research and notes should be taken to heart; I've done the same and picked up some el-cheapo lined bifocals, for spares. The lenses are made of plastic, but they are perfect and I wear them often (they actually feel better than my other pair). MissyD got a pair, too - it has been the one pair she has not successfully broken, yet.

Sorry - I meant that I had no personal experience with the company in that particular ad; also that I am personally wary of contact lenses - in the "experimental" context that I approached my eyeglass purchase.

What is it about cheap glasses/sunglasses - that they are the ones you don't lose?  Every pair of pricey sunglasses I've ever had: I've lost or broken.   I even had expensive polarized magnetic clip-ons for my official (purchased at my optometrist's office) glasses.  I lost them after about 6 weeks. I picked up a functional pair for $10 at the LLBean store 12 years ago, and still have them in currrent rotation.

There must be a scientific explanation for this.

I'm actually pretty curious about the company - my cheap glasses didn't come from them, but heck, why not? Sure is a good solution for many as vision care doesn't seem to always be included in employers' insurance offerings...

I really like my $8.50 glasses, and have gotten a lot of compliments on them (!)

That's great - no joke!

Don't you just love it when something that is generally accepted as being 'expensive' has perfect alternatives that are so much more 'earthbound', price-wise?

It sounds as if the alternative works as well for you as it does for us; you can actually see the irritating 'bobble-head' commercial without squinting, and can quickly read the remote's channel-changing buttons, too.

Just for the funzies I stopped into WalMart's vision center one day, asked some questions, and immediately got an appointment.   I was waaay overdo for an exam and figured what do I have to lose?  (except my vision...Confused)   The optician was terrific and I got a good price on new glasses.  They also give you your contact lens prescription and then file it so you can use 1-800-contacts to order discount lenses.   Never had a problem.  Cool

I just wear normal eyeglasses. Mine don't fall off very easily because they're a bit tight. Just make sure the lens is shatterproof. I've been hit in the face a few times during doubles, and my eyeglasses saved me from having no eyeballs problems in my playing. But I also like to wear fashionable eyeglasses or sunglasses.

Last time I went to the optometrist, the doc gave me sample contact lenses in my Rx and size to try out in the office.  They were fine.  Though I ordered the usual 12 sets, I've been wearing those sample ones since the day I tried them out.  That was February of 2009.  Anyway, if I could've just run outta the office with those samples in my eyes, I could've saved myself a few hundred bucks.

FYI, I got distance contacts for my right eye, and reading contacts for my left.  Haven't had to don a pair of reading glasses since.

The problem with America's Contacts and Eyeglasses is that their "deal" only works for simple prescriptions.  If you need bifocals or have any other problems the special prices go right out the window.  I went there last year to get my eyes examined.  I have astigmatism in my right eye.  They were up to $250.00 before I told them to stop and give me my prescription.  Then I went to http://www.zennioptical.com and got a pair for around $22.00; that includes shipping.
