I used to hate that Chemistry ad where the dorky couple is saying stupid crap like "I promise to embrace your human beatbox."

Yesterday I saw an ad for the same service but with a gay couple. Now I love it. I mean, that is extremely cool and ballsy. Now, it doesn't mean that the commercial is not cheesy- it is. But I always watched eHarmony commercials and felt like all the gay people who were successful with them were not accounted for. =)

That's because, according to one eChemistry commercial, gay people were turned away from eHarmony.  (Again, eHarmony is religion-based.)

Many months ago, Beloved and I decided to see what the scoop was regarding gay couples and eHarmony.  Sure enough, there are precisely two choices on the intake page: Men seeking women and women seeking men.

Love endures all.

Well eHarmony is run by a Christian Creeper with a baboon's ass for lips, so I wouldn't be surprised.

I've always liked the "Nope--still gay!" ad.

I wonder how many gay dating websites cater to heteros?

Here is the profile page of a lesbian dating website.  I see no options for men seeking women or women seeking men:

http://lesbianlife.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=lesbianlife&cdn=people&tm=7&gps=65_6_1020_520&f=20&tt=3&bt=0&bts=0&zu=http%3A//www.lesbotronic.com/

Now, let's check a gay male dating site.  Nope.  Hetero dating doesn't seem to be an option here, either:

I wonder why such sites are not criticized or sued for discrimination, as eHarmony has been?

Well this thread is certainly eye-opening.  I always assumed that e harmony was a service that just focused on matching up good, decent, loving people.   Regardless of sexual preference or religion.   Their ads of course show hetero couples but for some reason I always thought they'd fix up gay people who want a marriage, too.   As for religion, if there are "believers only" rules I am  sure some of their questionnaire will be skewed to pluck out us "evil, horrid people" who don't believe in spooks and won't just to get a mate.  Unhappy

Thor, please.  One site is "lesbianlife" and the other is "guys4men."  The names alone are explicit.  eHarmony does not call itself "eStraightHarmony."  It does not let you know that it's only for straight people.  The commercials make it sound like it's open to everyone.

It certainily has a right to be for straights only, especially if it would be open about the fact that it's a religious dating service.  The comparison is not valid.

I looked at the lesbian site, and couldn't find any option for "man seeking lesbian".  Yet, that's not made clear in the name of the site.  Do you think it should be?

Uh, maybe that's because it's a lesbian dating website? LOL
If we don't let gays into hetero websites, they're going to start their own and keep us out. Law of the the jungle.

Psssst...that was my point!  And eHarmony is a straight dating website.

What Faith was saying was that it should be made clear in the name of the website and in the commercials, that it's for straights.  I said I don't think it should have to be, as one look inside the site, and that's made clear (the lesbian who sued, did so because the only options were "man seeking woman", and "woman seeking man").  I don't think the law should be getting involved in naming websites.

Well, queers make gay dating sites so that it's easy to find and network with other gays. The point of a gay dating site is to make it easy to find gay people, because everyone there is gay. There aren't as many gays as straights. In most regular dating sites, most people you see are straight. You would actually have to look deeper to find gays, you know. It wouldn't make sense for a straight guy to go on supergaybuttsex.com looking for a straight girl.
