I believe that some of the things you're taught in driver's ed are to give you baseline understanding of how to operate your vehicle and how to be mindful of traffic control devices & other motorists.

As you gain driving experience, you can "slack off" as it were on doing some of those basic things.   As long as you don't forget the reasons behind them.

I doubt very seriously that a cop is gonna pull you over for not having your hands at the 10 and 2 positions on your steering wheel.  Police understand that most drivers AREN'T going to do every little thing EXACTLY as they were taught in driver's ed.   What matters is that they obey the traffic laws and don't put themselves and other drivers in danger.

Quote Awhile back I took a driving test. in the actual driving my score was reduced because I didn't hold my hands at 10 and 2.

That's because you're a n00b driver.  If you'd demonstrated advanced driver skills by steering with your knees while applying makeup, texting, and reading a newspaper at the same time you would have passed with flying colors...

In these COP shows they sometimes drive at a full-tilt-boogie with lights spinning and sirens blasting and only one hand on the wheel. And many time not even close to 10 OR 2...............Talking on the radio. Typing on their computer. As if they are out for a Sunday drive. Police Privilege?
Indeed. I've had the privilege of sitting in the front with my wife on a few of her high-speed chases, one time in the family car, even. Talk about 'white knuckle driving', although she wasn't white, so the terrorized passenger, who was stiff as a board and pearly white (me) got a talking to (while she was on the radio, too) during the pursuit of a dangerous individual who she did apprehend, while giving me a lecture on remaining calm so I wouldn't go flying through the windshield like a surfboard, should she make any sudden stops, which she did, along with telling me she really wished I was drunk so I could have remained loose & limber, so I granted her wish as soon as I could get out of her unmarked car and before I cleaned up and changed my underpants. Mind you, I was trained to drive by my uncle, who was a professional race car driver, and she scared the hell out of me a lot more than he ever did, so that should tell you these guys are no joke and better drivers than race car drivers. Who are you to even question them, I would say along with wondering how old you really are.
You're clearly new to the fine art of driving where they teach 'safe driving practices' for the general public, not the skilled & trained professional operating two tons of metal specially built for use in life of death situations.
