This just proves how a network like TLC can go so far down the tubes in 25 years time. From a channel that had cooking, history, home improvement shows and documentaries, to one that has My 600 Lb Life, 1000 Lb Sisters and the Duggars. The armpit of cable TV. 
The only good thing about TLC is they brought back Trading Spaces...and I don't mind watching Little People, Big World.
Currently suffering from COVID19 fatigue...

One reason television is dominated by reality TV shows these days is because they are cheap and easy to do. Just find somebody with something unusual and build a series around it. Case in point I knew a girl in elementary and middle school who wound up getting on Little Women because she was very short.

You don't have to build fancy sets, in fact the only real thing you need is a background area for confessionals which can be easily accomplished by putting a green screen up somewhere. There are no writers needed and you can make any situation dramatic. The people who star in it almost certainly don't require the money that actors and actresses do and if they do get too greedy you can drop them and the show will likely continue.
